Dear Dancers,

We have listened to your requests to be able to dance at Worlds this year. We feel that you are correct in suggesting the current rule is holding you back, so we have discussed this and agree to allow dancers who have graduated during the dancing year, to compete at Worlds with three events, of which only one is for overall in the new division.

This rule will be effective immediately, but is not published in the 2013 Rules Book, as the 2014 Rules Book is already on-line.

We hope this will make it a bit easier to qualify for Worlds so you can join us on the event of the year.. WorldCDF World Championships.

With best regards,

The WorldCDF Rules Board

Dear Dancers,

The WorldCDF Rules Board would like to take this opportunity to present to you the new WorldCDF Rules Book 2014

As you all know, in 2014 the WorldCDF is welcoming a brand new Line Dance Division called the “MODERN LINE DIVISION”. It consists of 3 Non-country Line dances.

The WorldCDF General Council has voted on the creation of this new division with a 1 year trial period. If you have any questions about this new division, please contact the WorldCDF Management Team by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Just after the upcoming 2014 World Championships, Line Classic and Line Showcase divisions will then consist of 5 dances (Lilt, Smooth, Rise & Fall, Cuban and Novelty).

If on reading any rule you find that you are unsure or just want clarification of your interpretation, please do not hesitate in contacting the rules board at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for a complete explanation.

Again for all of our WCDF members, please send the rules board all of your suggestions, tips and ideas for any future rule changes. The rules board is always open to suggestions and we appreciate any and all feedback that we might receive.

We will keep you up to date with answers to all your questions about the new Modern Line dance division on this page. Keep checking regularly for more information.
Don't forget to also check the 2014 Rules Book for full details. It will be published very soon.

Q: Why was this new division created?

The WorldCDF wanted to offer competitive divisions for the growing number of "non-country" line dancers and also help "country" dancers to join us in Social and Classic divisions which will have a more "country" feel.
We also wanted to create a fun & competitive division for dancers to go "wild" on the dance floors.

Q: Must I register in Modern?

No, there is absolutely no obligation to compete in Modern.
If you compete in Classic or Showcase, you can just continue doing your 5 dances (Lilt, Smooth, Rise & Fall, Cuban and Novelty) to try and graduate to the higher levels.
It's no longer necessary to compete in the 6th dance since it is moved to the new Modern Line division. But if you want to have some extra fun and competition, join us in Modern.

Q: Where should I start competing?

If you are already competing in Classic or Showcase, you start in the same skill division. Classic Newcomer dancers start in Modern Newcomer, Classic Novice start in Modern Novice, etc....
If you are a new member and have never competed in Classic or Showcase, you can start in Newcomer. Dance teachers should however start in Novice.

Q: Can I earn graduation points in Modern?

Yes.
If you are competing in Classic Intermediate, you currently need 3 points to graduate to Advanced. If you also compete in Modern, you can earn 1 of those points in the Modern division.
But remember, Modern is not mandatory, so that means you can earn 3 points in Classic OR 2 points in Classic + 1 point in Modern.

If you are competing in Classic Advanced & Showcase, you currently need 3 points in Classic and 3 points in Showcase to graduate to Stars. If you also compete in Modern, you can earn 1 of those points in the Modern division.
So that means you can earn 3 points in Classic and 3 points in Showcase OR 2 points in Classic + 1 point in Modern + 3 points in Showcase, etc...

Please check the 2014 Rules Book for full details.

BREAKING NEWS .....

Dear dancers,

During the recent WorldCDF Fall Meeting, the General Council has voted on important changes in the Line Dance divisions for next year.

Just after the upcoming 2014 World Championships, Line Classic and Line Showcase divisions will consist of 5 dances (Lilt, Smooth, Rise & Fall, Cuban and Novelty).

We are hoping that more Social dancers will step up to the Classic divisions. The "gap" between 3 and 6 dances was quite large and many dancers hesitated because of Funky. We are confident that without Funky, more dancers will move up to the Newcomer division.

We have made a video to help you understand this new division. Please click here to view.

So what happens with Funky?

Don’t worry, you will still be able to have fun and go wild on the dance floor …. we have created a brand new division packed with "Non country" dances.

This new division is called MODERN LINE.

You will have 3 times more fun with 3 dances available in every division (Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced).

All the details will soon be published in the 2014 Rules book. Of course, there will be some basic Floorcraft and Graduation rules but we have kept the rest to a strict minimum so that you can all have fun when competing in this brand new division.

What do you need to know for now?

Until Worlds, all divisions remain as they are, but for events in 2014, you will be able to register in:

  • Classic Line (5 dances)
  • Showcase Line (5 dances)
  • Modern Line (3 dances)

You may of course only compete in Classic or Showcase … but if you want to go wild, you can also compete in Modern Line. No changes will be made to the Social, Renegade and Choreography divisions.

Line Dancers can also decide to only compete in Modern! So spread the word, tell all your friends in clubs at home to come and join the competition.
THE WORLDCDF IS THERE FOR ALL DANCERS.

We have not forgotten our current Intermediate and Advanced dancers who wish to graduate to higher levels. Points from this new division may also count for graduation. All details will be found in the Rules book.

More information will be available in the next few weeks and a special competitor’s "Press Conference" will be planned during Worlds to answer all your questions.
We will also regularly answer your questions through News items on the WorldCDF website, so keep checking for updates.

We hope everyone will have fun on the dance floor …whether you wear boots or not!
